... Տիգրան ..., որ զԱժդահակ սպան, եւ զտուն նորա ի գերութիւն վարեաց եւ զԱնոյշ մայրն վիշապաց. օժանդակ` կամօք եւ յօժարութեամբ զԿիւրոս ունելով` զիշխանութիւնն Մարաց եւ Պարսից յինքն յափշտակեաց: Սորա որդի Բաբ, Տիրան, Վահագն, զորմէ ասեն առասպելք աշխարհիս.

"Երկնէր երկին, երկնէր երկիր,	երկնէր եւ ծովն ծիրանի.
երկն ի ծովուն ունէր	եւ զկարմրիկն եղեգնիկ.
ընդ եղեգան փող ծուխ ելանէր,	ընդ եղեգան փող բոց ելանէր.
եւ ի բոցոյն վազէր խարտեաշ պատանեկիկ.	նա հուր հեր ունէր,
ապա թէ բոց ունէր մօրուս,	եւ աչկունքն էին արեգակունք":

Զայս երգելով ոմանց փանդռամբ, լուաք մերովք իսկ ականջօք: Յետ որոյ եւ ընդ վիշապաց ասէին յերգին կռուել նմա եւ յաղթել, եւ կարի իմն նմանագոյնս զՀերակլեայ նահատակութիւնսն նմա երգէին: Այլ ասեն զսա եւ աստուածացեալ. եւ անդրին ի Վրաց աշխարհին զսորա չափ հասակին կանգնեալ` պատուէին զոհիւք: Եւ սորա են զարմք Վահունիք. ի սորա կրտսեր որդւոյն Առաւանայ Առաւենեանք: Սորա Առաւան, սորա Ներսեհ, սորա Զարեհ. ի սորա զարմից եւ որ Զարեհաւանիցն կարդան ազգք: Իսկ սորա առաջին Արմոգ, սորա Բագամ, սորա Վահան, սորա Վահէ: Սա ընդվզեալ` մեռանի յԱղեքսանդրէ Մակեդոնացւոյ: Յայսմ հետէ մինչեւ ցթագաւորութիւնն Վաղարշակայ ի Հայս` ...

... Tigran ..., who slew Aždahak and carried his house into capitivity, and Anoyš, the dragons' mother. Having Cyrus as a helper with (similar) intentions and with willingness, he grasped suzerainty (over) Medians and Persians. His sons (were) Bab, Tiran (and) Vahagn, who is mentioned in sagas (even) in our land:

"Parturient heaven, parturient earth,	parturient also the crimson sea.
In its labours lay in the sea	also the carmine reed.
Smoke rose from the reed,	a flame rose from the reed.
And from the flame, a red haired boy escaped.	Hair he had of fire,
also a beard he had of flame(s),	and his eyes were suns."

With our own ears we have heard some (people) singing this song, accompanied by a lute. After that, they also told in the song how he (Vahagn) struggled with the dragons and conquered them, and they extolled him as being quite similar to Hercules in his efforts. But they also said that he was idolized and that his statue was erected in the land of the Georgians which had his (own) size, and that he was worshipped with sacrifices. And he is the ancestor of the Vahownidian tribes, and his youngest son Ar̄awan (is the ancestor of) the Ar̄aweneidians: From him descended Ar̄awan, from (Ar̄awan), Bagam, from (Bagam), Vahan, from (Vahan), Vahē.
